South Island Super Stock Championship

Nelson stocks dominated the South Island Ideal Electrical Supplies Super Stock championship at Greenstone Park on Saturday. The weather was an improvement on the rained out original date for this event in January.

Twenty two cars took the field on the first heat and only 17 finished including the only local entrant 99GM Cleve Kokshoorn. Car No 14 Dale Ewers (Nelson) took out first place with No 79 Brendon Higgens (Nelson) in second place and 86 Jared Gray (Nelson) third. Kokshoorn came in 13th. Only 14 cars finished the second heat and Kokshoorn was one of the casualties after hitting the wall. Ewers took out first place, 48 Brent Nicholls (Nelson) 2nd and Higgens third. The field was further depleted for the third heat with only 10 cars finishing. Ewers went into this heat with maximum points with only 4 points between the top 3 cars and won the title after taking out third place. A 4 lap run off was required for second place between Nicholls and Higgens that was a 'cat and mouse' race until the last lap when Nicholls spun Higgens and took out the honours.
