West coast Speedway ? Opening Day Results 25 October 2008

The West Coast Speedway had their Opening Day on Saturday and a good crowd of spectators watched the first day?s racing for the new season. Good numbers in all fields, especially stock cars indicates some excellent racing this year. The Stock cars team?s race between Palmerston North, Blenheim and Greymouth on the 8 November will be a meeting not to miss.


Youth Ministock
Some of the best racing for the day came from this class which included three new drivers Brogan Jackson, Vinney Spafford-Parsons and Monique Tasker. The event was won by Jemma Wilson with a clean sweep of 3 first placings.

Results:
1st 4 GM Jemma Wilson 24 points
2nd 18 GM Sarah Bellis 21 points
3rd 43 GM Ryan Smith 13 points

Stock Cars
A field of 12 stock cars raced at the Opening Day meeting signifying an excellent season?s racing for this class. Cleve Kokshoorn took three first placings giving him first place overall. There were several new drivers in this class as well and some who have transferred from other classes.

1st 99 GM Cleve Kokshoorn 36 points
2nd 38 GM Tony Oliver 30 points
3rd 11 GM Tony Stanton 29 points

Production Saloons
Some new drivers to this class have helped fill the gaps for those not racing in this class this year. Brent Shearer was the driver to beat at this event with three first placings.

Results:
1st 6 GM Brent Shearer 18 points
2nd 19 GM Steve Shearer 15 points
3rd 4 GM Ashley Boyd 12 points

Street Stocks
It was a welcome return of this class to Greenstone Park after almost a years absence from racing. There are some further cars that will be ready to race shortly building up the numbers. There was a tie for first place on points.

1st 89 GM Nick Petch 10 points
2nd 15 Y Jason Fox 10 points
3rd 41 GM Michael Knipe 6 points

Ministocks
Three Youth Ministock drivers, Sean Brown, Jayden Gerrard and Dave Houston are now old enough to race in this class and all raced extremely well. These three drivers will be worth keeping an eye on.

3rd 48 GM Glen Redmond 20 points
