West Coast Stock Car Championship
It was brilliant day for racing at the Greenstone park West Coast Speedway on Saturday.
Stock cars
The feature event was the Westfleet Seafoods West Coast Stock Car Club Championships. This event attracted a good sized field from Greymouth, Nelson and Christchurch. As usual, the stockies put on some excellent racing and the West Coast Champion was Cleve Kokshoorn of Greymouth with three straight wins. Second and third places were hotly contested by Jason Smith and Jason Tasker of Greymouth and Colin Cameron of Christchurch. Smith took out second place and Tasker was third equal with Cameron and lost the third placing on a run off.

2nd 43 GM Jason Smith 45 points
3rd 15 C Colin Cameron 40 points
4th 33 GM Jason Tasker 40 points
5th 21 C Graham Read 35 points
Six Cylinder Sprint Cars
The six cylinder sprint cars from Ellesmere in Canterbury raced at the track for the first time and put on a good display. A familiar face from this class was James Thompson of Greenstone Park TQ fame.

1st 29 Brian Humm 21 points
2nd 24 Greg Prebble 17 points
3rd 9 Gordon Rattay 16 points
Street Stocks
This class has come a long was from last season when they were unable to get enough cars to race. The field also included cars from Christchurch and Westport.

1st 73 C Norton Gowans 23 points
2nd 5 GM John O?Callaghan 20 points
3rd 15 Y Jason Fox 15 points
Modified
A small field of Modifieds depleted by a tow vehicle failure on the way to the track still put on a crowd pleasing display for the crowd. All modified drivers are gearing up for the South Island Modified title at the track on the 17 January 2009.

1st 94 C Grant Harkness 7 points
2nd 6 GM Brandon Parkinson 6 points
3rd 14 C Gary Alford 4 points
Youth Ministocks
Very close racing in this class and this is what we have come to expect with the youth ministocks. Sarah Bellis and Jemma Wilson are fighting for first place in this class and a good result by Ryan Smith of the well known Smith racing family.

2nd = 4 GM Jemma Wilson 17 points
2nd = 43 GM Ryan Smith 17 points
Ministocks
One of the success stories from the Youth Ministock class last year was Jayden Gerrard and he is more than holding his own with the adult class this season with two first placings and a second place to win this event.

2nd 23 C Tony Newman 19 points
3rd 44 GM Dave Houston snr 9 points
Production Saloons
A tight tussle between the Shearer family in this class for all placings with Brent Shearer as the eventual winner.

2nd = 19 GM Steve Shearer 16 points
2nd = 22 GM Corey Shearer 16 points
The next meeting at the track is the South Island Modified Championship on the 17 January 2009.
