South Island Stockcar Champs - 08 December 07

Relentless heat and relentless racing at the Ideal Electrical Supplies and Oliver?s Auto Specialists South Island Stock Car Championships.
Forty one stock cars from all over the South Island took part in the event on Saturday at Greenstone Park. They were divided into tow groups and the top 12 on points after 2 races went onto the final.
From the original 11 local starters, 7 qualified ? 99 Cleve Kokshoorn, 43 Jason Smith, 88 David Kokshoorn, 25 Brian Hahn, 48 Dave Terris, 11 Tony Stanton (via repercharge), 5 Guy Stewart.
The final was run over three heats and the winner decided on accumulated points.

The final winner 99 Cleve Kokshoorn took out first placings in two of the heats with his calm driving amongst the havoc on the track.

The first heat was won by 91 N Cody Teece. Racing was very close with only 5 points between the first five placings.

Other locals in the top 15 places were:

7th - 43 Jason Smith 60 points
8th - 88 Dave Kokshoorn 53 points
11th - 25 Brian Hahn 43 points
13th - 48 Dave Terris 41 points
14th - 11 Tony Stanton 34 points

The overall results were

1st - 99GM Cleve Kokshoorn 67 points
2nd - 44C Peter Ross 66 points
3rd - 67C Neil Frew 64 points
4th= 17 C Vaughan Fairburn 62 points
4th= 91 N Cody Teece 62 points

Youth Ministocks:
Extra Youth Ministocks from Nelson and Christchurch swelled the numbers racing in this class and the lead swung between locals Sean Brown and Jayden Gerrard and Perry Soper from Nelson.

1st 14 GM Sean Brown 33 points
2nd 48 GM Jayden Gerrard 32 points
3rd 53 N Perry Soper 31 points


Production Saloons:
A good field of Production Saloons from Greymouth and Nelson took part in this class.

1st - 9Y Phil Campbell 31 points
2nd = 14Y Paul Tierney 24 points
= 15GM Rob Mazey 24 points


Street Stocks:
Three cars from Christchurch raced with the local drivers in this event. Local Mitch Tucker was the best on the day.

2nd 19 C Chris Leigh 14 Points
3rd 55 C Keith Anderson 13 points


Ministocks:
Ministock class put on a great spectacle as usual with good hard racing with the help of several cars from Nelson and Christchurch.

3rd - 91C Andy Pawsey 28 points
