South Island TQ Champs - 05 January 08
Brilliant weather and a large crowd watched 23 hopefuls race for the South Island TQ Championships on Saturday.
The Championship was run over three heats with accumulated points deciding the winner.
Heat one won by local entrant Steve Thompson who was looking very likely for a major placing but unfortunately lost his chance when he did not finish the second round.

2nd 16C Kyle Glover
3rd 27C Jeremy Beaton
Heat two left the championship wide open with several contenders for the title on accumulated points.

The pressure was on in heat three and the race was finally taken out by Michael Moulin

Championship Results
A run off between 27C Jeremy Beaton and 45 C Glen Milroy resulted in the third placing going to Beaton
1st 16C Kyle Glover 58 points
2nd 44 N Glenn Campbell 54 points
3rd 27 C Jeremy Beaton 49 points
4th 45C Glen Milroy 49 points
5th = 63 C Michael Moulin 45 points
5th = 91 C Damien Ryan 45 points
7C Ryan Stone and 21C Ricky Brett were disqualified.

The stock cars were missing a few after the last meeting after sustaining extensive damage after the South Island Stock Car Championship in December
1st 88GM Dave Kokshoorn 25 points
2nd = 33 GM Jason Tasker 20 points
2nd = 38 GM Tony Oliver 20 points
Production Saloons:
Scott James from Nelson took out this class from a good performance by Mike Harris in a replacement car after his was extensively damaged last meeting
1st 33N Scott James 21 points
2nd 95 GM Mike Harris 19 points
3rd 21 GM Gill Simpson 18 points
Youth Ministocks
Two new drivers took to the field on Saturday, Bydon Stewart and Ryan Smith and both presented a good performance. The field was further strengthened by two cars from Nelson.
Racing was very tight with only one point between the first three placings.
1st 48GM Jayden Gerrard 28 points
2nd 14 GM Sean Brown 27 points
3rd 36 GM Callum Evans 26 points
Ministocks:
This field was also strengthened by three cars from away. Shane Olsen put in a good performance to win this class.

Solo Bikes: Solo Bikes have been a welcome feature of several speedway meetings this year
Heat 1: Aaron Klempel 1st , Kenny Williams 2nd, Cory Lang retired with carburettor problems
Heat 2: Cory Lang 1st, Kenny Williams 2nd, Aaron Klempel 3rd
Overall for the day: Aaron Klempel & Kenny Williams 4pts, Cory Lang 3 pts.
