TOWBAR IMPRESSES AT NZ STOCKCAR CHAMPS

Dave "Towbar" Terris
ventured into the unkown by entering in the New Zealand Stockcar Championship heald at Stratford Speedway on Feb 1st and 2nd. A total of 177 cars competed in the event and Towbar managed to finish the meeting placed respectivly at 21st overall.

Being the only entry from Greymouth, Towbar was going to be reliant on the goodwill of fellow racers should he need help, and help was indeed needed.

After a few scrutineering issues and facing the prospect of having to buy a whole new set of rims, Dave loaded the 48GM back on the trailer and was ready to head for home!
Some of the locals learned of Daves plight and jumped in to help Dave sort out his car. Some new rims from Peter Rees and a bit of speedway spirit saw the 48GM primed and ready for action.

Friday the 1st was qualifying night and the racing proved to fierce and brutal. Some big hits round the track had the speedway rattling to the sound of metal on metal and cars hitting the wall.
Towbar managed to get a grid one draw for one of his races and took full advantage of the position blasting out of the blocks, showing impressive speed, leading for the whole race and taking the win.

Towbars two other qualifiying heats saw him start mid pack. Staying out of trouble proved to be the best course of action and let him finish with enough points to qualify into the championship event.

Race night on the 2nd was wild with some huge hits, lots of action and roll-overs. Towbar amazingly got through the whole meeting without damage, the only minor setback was a popped tire during one race.
When I spoke to Towbar infield after his second to last race he had a huge grin, stating that he had never experienced racing of this pace and intensity and commented "the body is feeling it too!!".

Well done Dave, you did well and I am sure we will see more of the 48GM at future events.
