South Island Super Saloons - 12 April 2008

West Coast Speedway Fireworks, South Island Super Saloon Championship and Club Championships

The wait was worth it as the weather was perfect at Greenstone Park for the Smiths Speed and Spares South Island Super Saloon Championship, Club Championships and Fireworks display.

The opening display from the professional fireworks company was ?Ma and Pa Kettle? who wandered onto the track in a car looking lost but it was soon obvious they were part of the act when sparks started erupting from various parts of the car and the resulting fireball when escorted infield by two stock cars.

This was followed by a brilliant display of colour and loud booms which echoed up the valley in the perfectly calm Greymouth evening. The display had the large crowd enthralled to the end of the show.

The best local performance in the Club Championships was the Stock Cars with local drivers Dwayne Honey, Tony Oliver and Jason Smith picking up the first three places.

Glen Redmond took a clean sweep of the ministock class with 3 straight wins and Jayden Gerrard missed first place in the Youth Ministocks by the toss of a coin.
