COAST DRIVERS SUCCESSFUL

Saturday saw the opening day at Woodford Glen speedway in Christchurch.

3 coasters ventured over to compete for the Moller and Young trophy challenge. Allan Meaclem (Meataxe), Glen Redmond in the adult ministock class and Brandon Parkinson in the Modifieds.

This was the 1st meeting for Parkinson in his modified having made the leap from Youth Ministocks/TQ's. This season will see Parkinson very busy competing in two classes, TQ's and Modifieds. Greymouth speedway are this season hosting the NZ TQ's title over two days on Waitangi weekend February 2007.

Woodford Glen had a small field of 7 Modifieds racing on Saturday night. Parkinson had some tough competition against some very experienced drivers. He finished a very commendable 5th place. This young 16 year old driver has great potential in this class and will gain extensive knowledge and support from father and ex modified driver Ray Parkinson.

In the much larger class of adult Ministocks, fierce competition was seen amongst the 17 drivers.
Both Greymouth drivers started at the rear of the field in the 1st race, Redmond managed to carve his way through the field finishing 4th with Meaclem one place behind in 5th.

Next two races saw Redmond working hard finishing 2nd and 3rd. Meaclem was finding his feet in his new number 8 car and finished the night 7th overall.

Prizegiving revealed Redmond and Christchurch driver Darren Kerr equal on points for 1st place. A toss of the coin in Kerr's favor put him 1st and Redmond in 2nd place.

The Jade Greenstone park Speedway opening meeting is this Saturday starting at 4pm.
