RESULTS

West Coast Speedway Grey Ford NZ TQ Championship 3 to 4 February 2007.

Hot weather, hot racing and sunburnt Aucklanders were the features of last weekends racing at Greenstone park. About 40 competitors took to the track in three groups on Saturday to qualify for the finals on Sunday. The first 6 home in each group went forward to the 20 car final and the last two places were decided with a repocharge on Sunday.

The first place in each of the groups went on to take the first three places in the championship. James Thompson was the only local to qualify with a very satisfying 3rd and 2 x 4ths in his group.

The grid positions for the final were decided over the first two heats on Sunday and were very hotly contested. A very spectacular roll lost Hayden Williams his opportunity for success. A very disappointed Thompson was out after the first heat with engine problems.

The final was an absolutely awesome race and one of the best seen at Greenstone Park for sometime. The final expertly won by 16 year old Ryan O’Connor from Auckland with a magic race matching all the skills of drivers that have raced for years. O’Connor has only raced TQs for two months after graduating from ¼ midgets and is definitely an up and coming star in the TQ world.
